Ireland- October 1-11, 2012
Ireland, land of green and exquisite song that seems to rise directly out of the landscape. In this place, people preserved the traditions of light during the dark ages; the ways of women as partners with men were known and honored; and Celtic spirituality venerated God through the elements, blending pre-Christian and Christian ways in a seamless dance.
Join Atum O’Kane and Michelle LeBaron in the west of Ireland from whence some of the world’s most powerful writing has flowed, and where poet-philosopher John O Donohue taught. We will spend time at a Benedictine Abbey where Christian traditions from the eastern and western churches are interwoven and a traditional Irish musician offers us windows into ancient songlines. We will visit wells where the Celtic Goddess Brigid was honored for centuries, now converted to venerate Mary. Amidst spiral carvings and the ancient stone circles, we will take time to listen for what our hearts have to say.
The pilgrimage will feature stillness, writing, reflection and intentional travel as we weave themes from Celtic spirituality: knowing and living what is ours to do in the world; awareness of divinity all around us; and reclaiming traditions that illuminated Christian thought.
